Cataract means the blurring of the eye lens. The eye lens plays an important role in the refraction of the eye as it enables the eye to see sharply both near and far.

In case of cataract development, the lens becomes progressively blurred, and thus vision is also progressively impaired. During cataract surgery, the lens, which has become grey, is removed and replaced by a special plastic lens.
